Uploading two files for one assignment

As a single assignment I want students to annotate an article from our databases by highlighting the PDF of the article and attaching a Word document with their notes about the article. In testing this, when the PDF and the Word document have been uploaded to the assignment, only the last uploaded file appears in the Gradebook and in SpeedGrader. Is there a way for students to upload the two files where I can see both of them in SpeedGrader without making them two separate assignments?

If students upload the two files separately (submission and resubmission), you should see both files in SpeedGrader. You will see a drop-down menu next to the submission date. Switching to another submission date/time will allow you to see additional files uploaded by a student. WARNING: If you have students use the resubmit option to have both files show up (so submit one file and then resubmit to turn in the second file) then the students will NOT be able to see the first submission; students can only see the most recent submission. In addition, if you add Crocodoc comments to the first document that was submitted students will not be able to see this either - this is because they can only see the most recent submission and information related to that submission. If you are grading both files, you really need the students to submit both files at the same time!!

When students submit more than once, a link will be shown below the grade field in SpeedGrader 'Use this same grade for the resubmission'. This will enter one grade in the gradebook but it will apply to both submissions.

 @crafte , yes, both submissions show up for the Instructor in speedgrader. The problem is that the students will NOT be able to access the original submission nor will they be able to view any Crocodoc feedback on this original submission. Students are only able to view the most recent submission and feedback related to that submission. If they submit something else to the Assignment then they lose access to the submission and the feedback. So no, this isn't a direct problem for the Instructor, but it can cause a lot of problems for students, which can then cause problems for the Instructor.

 @ssadare ,  @crafte ​ has given you great advice! In addition, students can upload multiple files to the same assignment submission, by clicking on + Add Another File, as described in How do I upload a file as an Assignment submission in Canvas?​ From the teacher's viewpoint, the teacher can click on the file link(s) that appear directly under the dropdown to display the chosen file in the left pane of the SpeedGrader. So your teachers can decide if they have a preferred method for multiple file submissions to a single assignment, and give their students the appropriate instructions on how to accomplish either or both.

To add to what stefaniesanders​ said, here's a quick video showing how to get both files to show up in Speedgrader - 06.14.2016-09.19.23 - KonaJones's library - The trick is definitely to add both files during the same submission.

Could someone help me understand how this workflow could work for submitting more than one video to the same assignment? Is this possible?   @kona ​ stefaniesanders​

 @mevans1 ​, are they uploading the video files (created outside of Canvas) or creating the video in Canvas? If they are uploading video files (created outside of Canvas) then they will have the option to submit multiple files the first time they submit their assignment. That's what they would want to do - submit both files at the same time. That way they will still be able to view them and all feedback you provide for both of them.
