The Instructure Community will enter a read-only state on November 22, 2025 as we prepare to migrate to our new Community platform in early December. Read our blog post for more info about this change.
Hi Everyone,
We had a few faculty running courses in the canvas.instructure.com last semester, and this term we have our official pilot/early adopters on our own instance. One of these faculty pointed out that the free course sites had a different profile page that we do not have on our instance.
How do we turn this on?
Thank you!
Joni
Solved! Go to Solution.
That's a CSM-enabled feature like the text-chat and others. We asked Deactivated user to turn that on for our Canvas environment and we love it. Also, if you ever decide to use the Canvabadges app, you can have the badges display on your user profiles too.

Yep! We did the same thing! And with the same (amazing) CSM! ![]()
@John_Lowe @kona :
OK, so I feel like there have been a lot of things that we have had to ask to turn on.
What are these features? We asked in a few of our implementation calls when we had to have things enabled "is there anything that you can turn on for us that we are missing" and were told no, we should have everything....
The ones that I know about are:
Roll Call Attendance
User Profiles
Commons
Text Chat
Faculty Journal is another one that you have to ask to turn on, but I caution you about turning it on. It provides a place for faculty to add comments about students, but EVERYONE with that student (teacher and admin wise) can see all of the comments from everyone.
In addition, as new features get released sometimes they aren't turned on automatically in your live institution (only in beta) unless you talk to your CSM. Normally the feature releases are pretty specific about which features you'll need to ask to get turned on though.
