[ARCHIVED] Where do the graded papers end up if you use Turnitin just to check plagiarism but GRADE and mark it with Canvas tools???

My school has shown us how to use Turnitin as a plagiarism checker and the tools in Canvas to grade papers. 

However, once I do that, my kids cannot seem to locate the GRADED  PAPER with my marks on it from within CANVAS and I have not been able to locate it either. All they see is my rubric but not the actual marks I put on the essay.

Great question, though I'm unsure if you are using the TurnItIn LTI (external tool) or Canvas Plagiarism Framework {CPF] (TurnItIn within the Canvas assignment). 

If you are using CPF, students would access your notations comments through the gradebook: How do I view annotation feedback from my instructor directly in my assignment submission?

Alternatively, if you are using the external tool TurnItIn LTI (they also refer to it as Feedback Studio)- then they would access it from TurnItIn- directions can be found in this area for Students- under the "Paper feedback" section.

Apparently that is not quite how it works. I chatted with a canvas rep last Thurs who verified that the marked papers do not appear if the Turnitin tools have been used to check for plagiarism unless the teacher goes back in and turns off the external app. This adds another step and then the marks made in Canvas speedgrader can be viewed. I was told the glitch is on the Turnitin side of things. But what it really means is the Turnitin tools are not fully integrated into the Canvas platform. I am really frustrated to discover this.

 @cstaude ‌, that does sound like an annoying bug.  @valentinesking ‌'s answer appears to refer to grading done using Turnitin's grading tools. That is what I use as well and enjoy grading in Turnitin quite a bit. Have you considered using Turnitin's grading tools?

Thanks for the reply. No I haven't done any recent grading in TurnItIn,

largely because we started using it over 8 years ago and as we became a 1:1

iPad school the tools were clumsy for use on the iPad. I do most of my

online grading in the Speedgrader on the iPad because I have found it easy,

efficient and I can annotate in English class in a variety of ways.

TurnitIn doesn't do that for me on the iPad - or at least it didn't do it

well the last time I tried. May have to give it another try to see if

anything has changed.

My issue is that the "integration" of TurnitIN was marketed to us on Canvas

as an easy way to incorporate the plagiarism check tool directly into any

canvas assignment. But when we actually do that - we lose the functionality

of the Canvas grading tools to some extent. Having to turn a tool off and

on so that students can see their feedback is a real pain.

I am a recent Canvas user since our school used to have eBackpack (which

went out of business) - I am finding a lot of what we were told Canvas

could do for us takes many more steps than it used to take me in my

previous LMS. Not their fault... just not as smooth and easy to use as

other LMS systems out there. But it's what my school has chosen to use....

as a teacher trying a paperless classroom, I find it clumsy in several

aspects.
