[ARCHIVED] Why are there two different grades for an assignment quiz?

When I create a new quiz, I am asked for points in the assignment. However, there is an entirely different amount of points in the "New Quiz build" area. I just gave a 54 point quiz, however the scores show "0", because I accidentally set the assignment grade to zero points.

Please help!

If no students have taken it yet just go to the assignment tab (specifically on this tab only), select edit from the three dot menu next to the quiz, and change the total in the pop-up. 

If students have already taken the quiz there are a few more steps.  First on the grades tab use the three dot menu to hide grades.

Then go to speedgrader, add on fudge point to each completed quiz, and select update.  Return to the gradebook to see the change.

Go back to speedgrader, remove each fudgepoint, and select update.  Return to the gradebook to see corrected scores, and then select post>graded from the three dot menu.

It looks like regrading a question updated the scores for me. Hopefully it took the scores correctly!

Hey @spudicmx!

While it may take some getting used to, I find this feature helpful actually.  For an example of how this can be helpful, let's say I wanted to create a 15 question quiz with each question having the same weight and I wanted the quiz to be worth 20 points.  Since Classic Quizzes use the total points for all the questions combined, I would have to calculate the point value for each question and then adjust the point value for each question to make the entire quiz worth 20 points.

With New Quizzes, I can set the point value of the quiz to 20 in the assignment editing window.  Then I can have any number of questions weighted however I want and the total points of the quiz is still 20.  If I want to add or remove a questions or two, the total points of the quiz still totals 20 points.

Thanks, Ryan. I understand. I would say it is a little more cumbersome, because I always give the same number of points per question. That means if I add or remove a question before the quiz starts, I also have to update the assignment points.

Since I have you, will scores automatically update to the gradebook, if I adjust scores on a student's quiz? In speed grader, the score is greyed out, and I didn't see an immediate change.

You will adjust the scores on each question of a quiz, not the greyed out total.  A button after the last question says update, and clicking that button will change the greyed out box in speedgrader (and the score in the gradebook.)

Try clicking it twice.

It looks like it was a lag, or I needed to refresh the speedgrader window. Going back to the gradebook showed the update.
