[ARCHIVED] Why can't I add links to pages in course navigation?

When I design a course site in Canvas, I create pages with content that I would like students to have easy access to. I would like to make those links available in the course navigation, but apparently the only way to do this by using the Redirect LTI, as recommended here and elsewhere. I've done this for years, but:

1) This is a clumsy workaround

2) This doesn't work in the app because it treats the targeted page as an external link and routes back to the SSO log in

Why isn't a fully customizable navigation link build in as a core feature by now?

This sounds like it could make a good feature idea. I think other instructors and designers would find having the option helpful.
