[ARCHIVED] iPad Dashboard View vs Laptop Dashboard View

I'm watching the video in section 1.2 in the Growing with Canvas Course 300 - Canvas Overview on Vimeo  about how to navigate the dashboard and was wondering if this is the same interface students see when they are on their iPads. Our sixth graders have to navigate this platform on their iPads and we have run into many speed bumps because we thought their interface would look the same as we see it on our teacher laptops, but that's not the case. Is it safe to assume their iPad screens for the dashboard look the same as the tutorial video or are there other tutorial videos available specifically for the iPad interface?

Hi Chase!

Yes, the Canvas Student (mobile) interface looks different than it does on a desktop, but there are many similarities as well. What types of resources would you find to be the most helpful? I can collect written or video guides for you!

I think it's important for teachers to be comfortable with the features of Canvas Student as they'll be the first line of "tech support" when the students are using their devices for classwork.

I think either a guide with screenshots or a video guide that uses the iPad interface would be great.  I think both a teacher facing and student facing guide would be helpful.  I also think that having a guide that highlights the differences in user experience with the iPad and the Laptop would be helpful, since many of our teachers design on the laptop, and the students experience it on the iPad.

If teachers have the ability to install Canvas Teacher and Canvas Student on a phone, they can get a pretty good idea of what the Canvas Student experience will feel like with "Student View". Keep in mind that the users that use an iPad have more space than those using an iPhone. Therefore, the course navigation usually stays to the right-hand side. It's a starting point though!
