I don't believe that this functionality currently exists in Canvas. However, I did find an existing Feature Idea here in the Community that might be similar to what you are looking for:
Student performance tracking notes in SpeedGrader
If you feel that this Feature Idea is similar to something you'd like to see in Canvas, I'd encourage you to give it a star rating and maybe even post a comment to that thread letting Instructure know why it would be important to you ... even giving a real-world example or two.
