[ARCHIVED] requirements for quizzes/assignments

If I want to construct an exam in which part 2 only opens if part 1 has been submitted, and so on, what is the best way to do that? I will have four parts, and want to make sure that my students do not help each other by one student completing and copying part 1 while another does the same for part 2, if you see what I mean. I suppose I could do this by creating different questions with no backtracking in a quiz, but this is a five-hour exam with two quiz-type declarative knowledge parts, and two essay questions, and I want to set really short times for the quizzes and allow more time for essay questions,.  and include time for breaks in between. Can I use different modules for this? I have not used prerequisites with any success before; the one time I tried, my students complained that they couldn't get into a module, but that might be the best way, or what do you say?

I *think* what you'd want to do is use module requirements.  How do I add requirements to a module?  But, I'm also thinking that you may have to have four separate exams in your module...one for Part 1, one for Part 2, etc.  Then, I *think* you'd be able to set your requirements such that it has to either be submitted by the student or a certain minimum score has been achieved on that part of the exam before the next one opens up....if you set up the module for students to complete things in sequential order.  Do you think this would work for your needs?

Thanks, Chris, yes, that was exactly what I wanted, and I did end up with four different parts for the exam, which was  OK in the sense that they worked the way I wanted, although getting the different settings right was nerve racking.  I don't think I'll attempt it again. 🙂 Thanks for your help!
