No issue before--the toolbar that allows me to make in-text/inline comments on student assignments will not appear for ANY student for a particular assignment.
Settings, browser (Chrome), and everything else exactly the same . . . will appear on previously graded assignments.
Any help is appreciated,
Kelly
Hi @kmartin4 . I have a quick question. Are these submissions text entry? I noticed in testing I recently did that when students submit a file, I have the SpeedGrader options for leaving comments, highlighting, etc., but if there is only text entry, I can see what they submitted but the toolbar for inline comments/actions does not appear. Thanks!
I am having this problem with pdf submissions.
Hello @insall and @kmartin4 . I thought I would check back and see if either of you had found any solution to the Speedgrader annotations toolbar not appearing. I noticed that another question was posted regarding the same issue, Annotation tools not available in SpeedGrader, so thought that maybe there was a common solution.
Thanks!
Hi @insall and @kmartin4 . I thought I would update this one additional time since the other similar thread, Annotation tools not available in SpeedGrader, was updated with another potential cause.
So far from that thread, and this one, Speedgrader Tools not showing, it appears that folks have experienced this issue in the following instances.
I'm not sure if any of these may fit your situation, but maybe if it does that could be causing the annotation bar to not appear.
Best wishes---

I’m not happy with the current situation, in which the annotations toolbar is unavailable to me for assignments being peer reviewed.
Hi, Eugene,
Can you confirm if your assignment was using one of the four options that Eric outlined? Usually the common problem is that peer reviews are set to be anonymous, which will turn off the tools.
Erin
I am also having this problem. Only on this one assignment. Everything else in the course works fine. None of the 4 situations outlined above are active here (no peer review, PDF only, no anon, no observers)
Same issue for me. And like you, this is not a text entry, there is no peer review, I am not a course observer, etc. I was able to provide annotations on every other student in the class, all of whom uploaded Word docs.
This issue still exists. It's amazing that it has not been resolved yet. Why does the toolbar disappear in Peer Review? It hobbles assignments. My campus IT claimed that if students comment on an assignment then it breaks the toolbar in peer review, but the toolbar still disappears wen students do not comment.
