Canvas Quizzes auto numbering multiple choice answer choices

I cannot find a way to stop answer choices from being automatically numbered in Canvas.  I am trying to copy test bank items from a publisher's website into Canvas Quizzes; however, Canvas adds a number beside each answer choice which already has a.), b.), c.), etc.  You cannot backspace to remove the number, so the answer choices look like this:

1. a.

2.b.

3.c.
