Hi there. We are new to Canvas, and my students are getting emails everyday when there are replies on the discussion posts in this course. I know that each student can change their preferences for notifications, but is there a way I can turn this off for all students?
@nichole1 , greetings! No, there isn't a way for an Instructor to turn this off for their students. My recommendation is to have students adjust this setting in class. Here are the directions that explain how to do this - https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-10624-4212710344

Has this situation changed at all since 2019?
If there is no way in the interface, is it possible to change them for people other than oneself using the notification preferences API?
I just wanted to note that according to what I am seeing on l. 91 of the NotificationPreferencesController, which has this API code, it looks like you can only update for the current user:
return render_unauthorized_action unless @user == @current_user
But am I misunderstanding that line of code?
