How to Emulate Schoology's "Social Media" functionality?

Our School used Schoology in the past. We hare happily moving to Canvas now, but we are still looking for integrations that might allow us to emulate a social media type of experience for announcements.
Piazza is an example of a possible tool but we'd like to evaluate any viable options (both native to Canvas and third-party integrations). Ideally, we would have one location that would aggregate announcements from different courses/groups with a news/activity feed model.
