Inline Preview for password protected PDFs

I love the inline preview feature on canvas. it makes my pages and module look really clean and is helpful for my kids.

I was wondering if I was still able to have an inline preview for a PDF file that is password protected? I tried and initially it appeared to not work. the preview never loaded and didn't allow for a password to be input.

I am just now having this problem after our Christmas Break. Before break, my password protected pdfs would open in Canvas and the students could enter the password. Now it opens in preview and a circle just spirals on the screen and nothing happens. I think they can still download and open the file, but I don't understand why this functionality has changed. Any ideas?

We are having the same issue and no one has responded in 1 1/2 years.
