Issues with exporting grades and CSV file

I have a professor who is having issues exporting grades from the gradebook. The exported CSV file does not look correct and places all data into one cell. The sheet does not have a column heading with a series of grades below. Each students names is followed by one cell with a huge jumble of characters. Any ideas on how to address this? We are using the New Gradebook.
Thanks,
Alister

Hi @acaddy1234 Welcome to the Canvas Community! I may be 100% incorrect on this, but I suggest you take a look at some of the answers offered here, even though the topic is from a completely different area of Canvas: Tips for quiz result export? It may very well come down to some settings that the professor may have in his/her Excel software. (I'm assuming they are using Excel for opening the CSV file.)
Hopefully some of the suggestions offered in there may help. (I hope so! Because I haven't encountered behavior like this myself yet. Each time I've had to do a download from the New Gradebook things have looked okay.)

Hello Ken,
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the steps in the link and I was able to successfully see the gradebook in an intelligible format. I didn't have to do all the steps. The column width was appropriate so I did not have to select Unicode (ATF-8) in the File Origin drop-down menu, for example. I have passed this along to the professor and I think it will solve the problem.
Thanks!
