No Notification of Quizzes Next Essay Submission?

I recently switched all quizzes to Quizzes Next and I have a couple of essay questions at the end of my courses. Since my courses are self paced it's important I receive a notification that grading is needed when any assignment requiring grading is submitted. It appears there's no such notification system in place for Quizzes Next as I was not notified a submission from the first student that their submission needed grading. Can someone confirm there's not a setting I'm missing and that the notification behavior of submissions needing grading is different in Quizzes Next than the traditional quiz module?

Second, it looks like you have stumped the Canvas Community.  Were you able to find an answer to your question? I am going to go ahead and mark this question as answered because there hasn't been any more activity in a while so I assume that you have the information that you need. I'm running into the same problem with not receiving notifications.  In addition, all the submissions have been given a zero.  When I use speed grader it's difficult to see which assignments have been graded and which have not.

I am having this same issue. My exams have both essay questions that need manual grading, as well as other question formats that are automatically graded. When students submit their completed exams, the grade book does not show a submission notification (like the submitted assignments have). It posts the students numerical score. I have no way of knowing which exams are newly submitted and which exams are those that I have already graded.

I do not have set due dates for my class because students work through the course at their own pace. So I can't assume that all exams have been submitted at the same time. In order to make sure I have not missed grading an exam, I must view ALL exams, both graded and ungraded, each time I am grading to make sure I haven't missed an exam that I must finish grading manually. 

Can you add anything to help me discern which exams have been graded and which have not? Is there a color change that I can control? I could change the color of a box that I have graded in the same way I can see when assignments are late or missing or excused.
