Preventing Instructor Access to Past Courses

As a Canvas admin at my school, I have been asked if there is anyway to prevent our instructors from accessing past courses so that they cannot import/copy them.  We did test the Conclude option but that doesn't prevent them from importing/copying from a concluded course.  I'm sure we could remove them from those courses, but that would be a daunting project as we've been with Canvas since 2014.  If anyone has received a similar request and has a solution; I'm all ears.  My assumption is that Canvas was designed to allow instructors to access past courses indefinitely.

Thanks for any information shared!

Howdy,

We remove enrollments from courses older than 2 years.

This is my process -

1 . Run the provisioning report for the term and select enrollments option.
2. Delete all columns except course_id, user_id, role, and status
3. Replace all data in the status column with deleted
4. Save file and then import using the SIS import tool.

If you have concluded courses - I usually end up just deleting those because it's a pain to fix. With the new permissions granularity, we've removed the option for our teachers to conclude courses, so hoping this won't be an issue with this year's terms and going forward.

This allows our teachers access to the previous two years of courses and manually created master courses to import from.

Cheers,
