Hi Brendan and Janey -
Where I teach, there is a scavenger hunt set up in our student "mega course". This course is more of an information course where we house forms and documents for student services, student activities, technology, campus ministry, academic support, etc. This past spring, we also used a module to house our community events. Each student is enrolled into a section that correlates with their graduation year, so we were able to differentiate assignments and announcements!
As part of our welcome week, we hid numbered stars within the pages so our incoming 9th-grade students could become familiar with the resources AND answer some key questions about the school and offices around campus. Then, we create a quiz where they had to write down the name of the page where they found the star. It was built to be automatically-graded which will help us a lot. We plan to use the "message students who..." feature from the gradebook to nudge those who need to complete the orientation. Those who were able to find all of the stars will be entered in a drawing for some money to be added to their lunch accounts for ala carte treats of their choice.
In the spring, our GREEN Team created a photo scavenger hunt to celebrate Earth Day. They shared a list of prompts through an assignment, and then students took photos on their iPads. They submitted a link to a Google Folder with the items labeled once they were done. I've also seen this successfully done with Google Slides or just file uploads if there aren't too many items on their search list.
