Sections vs. Choosing a user directly in Quiz settings

Learned something new today. Before today I thought the only way of assigning a separate date/time for a student to take a quiz was to create a Canvas section with one or more students in the section then assign the unique time/date to that section. I learned today that you can choose a student(s) directly in the quiz settings. So, now I'm trying to figure out why one would want to create a Canvas section if it can be done directly. I hope this is clear. Can someone give me some use cases?

Honestly I have no idea why you would create a section for this. We've never used sections for this type of thing - just assigned individual students.

cholling, there are plenty of organizational use cases for creating sections within a course that relate to how a school/college/institution enrolls students and limits those enrollments--but specifically with respect to differentiated assignments and sections, creating sections is a great way to assign different due dates and times for the same assignment to large numbers of students at the same time--for example, if a teacher teaches the same course over multiple periods in a day. It becomes easier to create a section and place all of those students within a section than it is to, say, individually select 25 students, and then again, and again, and so forth.
