I am looking for ideas on utilizing Canvas to keep my students up to speed on current science news/events without having to spend much monitoring, or grading time --- nor much classroom time. Twitter embeds and other iframes of science sites; with mandatory weekly assignments, or periodic discussion groups? Lots of possibilities, ---- is there anyone with some more specifics that have worked well in the past?
You could create a weekly assignment in which students are required to read and comment upon a scholarly science article from a provided list of credible sources. You can then attach a rubric to the assignment to give students specific criteria for analysis of the article and grade it through SpeedGrader. The great thing about speed grader is you can always grade stuff from a laptop or tablet as you find time. With a rubric, you can quickly grade the assignment by clicking through the rubric to assign points.
You can find the steps for doing so in this article: How do I open a Rubric in SpeedGrader?
Thanks much, Matthew...
