Weighting within question bank

When i set up a quiz to draw randomly from a question bank that has questions with different values, does the point value i set in the randomizer override those different values and if so, what about if it picks a question with 6 fill in blanks but i only set the randomizer at 2 points per question? Will it take a fraction of the 2 points if a student got one of the 6 blanks correct let's say?

Yes, the points in the quiz itself, the question group settings in your case, override the points in the question bank. The points in the question bank are meaningless as far as the quiz is concerned.

The grading of the questions is done the same as if they were part of the quiz itself, which they are when it's delivered to the student. Questions that award partial credit award partial credit the same way, it doesn't matter that it came from a bank. What does matter is the point value, which is now 2 (in your example) instead of what it was in the bank. So, if you were getting 1/6 of the points before, you would be getting 1/6 of the points now and 1/6 of 2 is 1/3 (although it may round it to be 0.33)

If I could just say this back to you so i understand, if i have a question in the question bank that is a fill in the blank with 6 blanks (thus i have it set as 6 points total in the question bank) and i have the randomizer pick that question but i have it assigned for each question to be 2 points AND the student get 1 blank correct out of the 6, canvas will assign that question .33 points correct. Sorry for the long sentence, but is that correct?

That is mostly correct. I just tested it to make sure.

This is what it shows.

I was worried about rounding issues, so I checked with three questions that each gave me 0.33 points and when I added them together, it gave me 1, not 0.99. That means that it is storing a longer decimal version of the score 2/6 and only rounding the displayed value and giving you 0.33. That's good.
