Why Limit Gradebook Columns to 214 px?

Faculty are asking why gradebook columns are now limited to 214 px minimum. Can someone explain why? This was part of the 2018-01-27 release. Several of our faculty have many assessments and like to use very narrow columns. Can we get the narrow columns back again? Thank you gradebook_new  erinhallmark‌
