Hi all,
There's been a lot discussion lately around the workplace about the value of micro-credentials. To me, a micro-credential seems to be a new buzz word for digital badges. They sound like almost the exact same thing in each article I read.
Has the industry adopted this new term over badges because it sounds more official—or is there truly an important difference between the two that I'm just not getting?
BTW... I've started using Badgr with some success lately, it works very well hand in hand with module requirements.
Best regards,
Ben
My understanding is that micro-credential is a broader term, that incorporates anything recognition of competency that is not a full degree, and is typically focused on short learning. This could include certificates, digital badges, or another form of recognition of completion.
