LTI 1.3 tool placement for assignment selection enabling and disabling

When creating an LTI 1.3 developer key, you can set the assignment_selection placement to have 'default' = 'disabled'  but if you do this is there a way in the Canvas UI for an instructor to then enable this placement so the LTI 1.3 tool will show up on the Assignments add menu?

Can you change it to 'default' = 'enabled' ?

Yeah, if you set it to disabled by default, instructors won’t see it in the Assignments add menu unless they go into the course settings > apps > view app configurations, find the tool, and manually edit it to enable that placement. Not super intuitive, but it’s doable.

Hi @Quander,

Just for the clarity of anyone who comes across this thread, I know your suggested steps not work in my institution's instances of Canvas.  I think your steps would only potentially work in the following scenario:

1. The tool is deployed at a course level (not an account)
2. The "Allow LTI Placement Toggling" feature option is enabled
3. The teacher role has the Manage LTI -> Edit permission.

In my opinion having all three of those things be true is going to be pretty rare, but not out of the question.  Even when they are trie, i'm not sure that the LTI placement toggle is going to work to change the default setting, but I don't want to say that with certainty).  In general, I think the only placement where the ''default' parameter makes much sense in Canvas is course_navigation, because Canvas has a UI to let teachers customize their course menu.

Happy to hear other opinions on this or even that I'm completely wrong.
