SpeedGrader has been a fundamental function of Canvas LMS since its debut. With its simple interface and efficient grading tools, it remains a staple for educator feedback. We’ve continued adding options for feedback, including today’s deploy which added a lite RCE to SpeedGrader commenting. This, coupled with other recent changes, help facilitate a more thorough, accessible, and custom grading experience.

Check out the video below to discover the latest enhancements, including:

The excitement doesn't end here! Stay tuned for future updates on performance improvements to SpeedGrader in large courses. We encourage you to make the most of these changes and share your feedback with us.

And of course, keep learning!

The lite RCE is much appreciated, @annalindsay and I look forward to additional features being added soon. I hope that soon on the list is access to HTML view. This will help me fix formatting when I copy and paste feedback from another source. Often when I do this I see lots of <div> tags, even buttons and other things that pop up but can't be removed by editing the HTML. There are two workarounds - launder the code by pasting first into textedit (or notepad), and I can also access the HTML by editing the comment in the flyout panel. It would be better if I could access that view directly in the SpeedGrader.

The other change I hope can be made quickly is to bring back the keyboard shortcut to enter a comment (C). My workflow when grading is to select the levels achieved in the grading rubric, select the Save button, and then type C so I can start typing comments. The other keyboard shortcuts to access the grade (G) and rubric (R) still work, so I think this must have been an oversight when the RCE lite was added. I hope Instructure's developers can bring back the C.

Hello there @ProfessorBeyrer! Thank you for your note. Regarding the (C) shortcut for commenting, I've raised this to our engineering team who will work to resolve this issue. This shortcut shouldn't have been removed, so they'll work to bring it back.  As far as access to the HTML view, let me dig into this with our product team and confirm if this is something we plan to add at a future date. Stay tuned!

10/14 Update: @ProfessorBeyrer me again! It looks like the omitted HTML view was an intended decision when adding the RCE Lite to SpeedGrader comments. HTML view, along with other more advanced RCE functionalities are in consideration for future work, but isn't something we're planning for quite yet. More to come down the road, but thank you for your questions!

@annalindsay, thank you for the updates! I am not sure that this is the proper place to ask, but I would like to suggest fixing the spelling auto-correct in SpeedGrader. When I misspell a word, I get an auto-correct suggestion (image 1); however, when I click on it, the word is not corrected (image 2), which means I have to go in and fix it manually. It slows down the grading process significantly. (If there is a better place for me to post this, I will move it. Thank you!)
