The Academic Strategy and Advance Development teams are hoping to gather your feedback on three draft state rubrics designed to capture the essential elements of a course design review in an LMS.
This research is an early step in a larger proof-of-concept effort to determine whether aspects of course design—such as structure, clarity, and alignment—can be detected in Canvas. But before we can test any technology, we first need to confirm that these rubrics reflect what educators and instructional designers actually value.
What We’re Studying
We are testing three drafted rubrics to determine which best captures the key elements of an online or hybrid course design review—specifically, aspects that can be observed within a learning management system (LMS). The rubrics are based on established frameworks such as Quality Matters, OSCQR, and QLT and focus on what’s realistically observable in LMS data, like course organization, alignment, and feedback opportunities.
This study focuses on one key question: Do these rubrics represent a fair, clear, and useful way to review course design?
We’re asking for instructional design expert input to determine whether the criteria:
-
Capture what matters in course design
-
Are fair across disciplines and modalities
-
Are clear, useful, and feasible to apply
How to Participate
Participate in our short (10–15 minute) survey: Review three draft rubrics and rate them on coverage, fairness, clarity, usefulness, and feasibility.
Share your perspective: Your feedback will help refine a rubric for use in the next phase of the research.
All responses are anonymous and used only for research.
The survey is closed for responses at this time.
