Canvas won't load

When I log in to canvas the first thing I see is the dashboard wich won't load no matter how long I wait(I am using a old iPad gen. 3).I am a student and so this presents me with a tremendous struggle, it would mean so much to me if someone would help me,thank you!

Hi! Canvas Student requires iOS 12.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Which version of iOS are you running on your iPad?

Thank you so much,this is was a great help.Sadly I am on iOS 9.3.5.That was the last update Apple created for this iPad.
