Hi,
So a teacher has requested to me the following:
"I’m wondering if you know the answer to this or could help. We don’t seem to be able to message course sections from the mobile app anymore (we could last year). I either have to send a message to the whole group, or to individual learners – sections don’t appear in the options. It works fine on the desktop version, but it’s not something we’re able to do anymore through the app. Not sure if this is something Canvas removed?"
And after digging around the mobile app for a while this feature seems to have disappeared, could I receive some clarity on it, I have looked at all mobile messaging guides and none of them show how you actually message groups or sections they just say it will be there, but it isnt. This guide shows it but is clearly outdated as I dont see the course sections option on the app like it shows. Canvas Student iOS Guide
Thanks!
Hi @CallumCopping ...
I don't necessarily have an answer for you, but I wanted to share a couple links with you ... just in case you or others who may see this conversation have not taken a look at the iOS mobile Guides here in the Canvas Community website:
Again, I know this might not answer your direction question, but these Guides may be more up-to-date than the link that you shared in your original question.
Hopefully you will get a response soon from someone who knows more about the mobile apps.
Greetings @CallumCopping ,
In addition to the information provided you by @Chris_Hofer , I wanted to let you know that there currently isn't a way to message specific course sections on the mobile app. The guide you were referencing is actually almost 10-years old, and also seems to come from a specific institution, and not from the official canvas guides. That being said, within the past several years it's definitely possible that they removed this feature, and it could've been removed since it wasn't working correctly or something.
If you are interested in doing so, I recommend submitting a feature idea for the development team, suggesting this as a feature inside of Canvas. Just ensure to specifically include "in the mobile app", just so your idea isn't moved to the will not consider section, as this feature does already exist on the internet browser version of Canvas. https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Canvas-Ideas/idb-p/canvas-ideas
I hope this helps!
Noah
