The FAQs page mentions that students cannot retain access to the portfolios after graduation.
We use Canvas for CPD style courses so there is no graduation per se, and learners may return at any point to study new courses. So they have access to Canvas, but not to specific courses once these courses reach the end date. So I would like to find out if learners may retain access to Portfolios after a course end date?
Does that apply to both Evaluation and Showcase portfolios?
Hi @DeliaGeorgescu,
Yes, learners will continue to have access to their Portfolios regardless of their course access.
They only need Canvas access; ongoing course access is not required. The only limitation is that once they no longer have access to a course, they won’t be able to view the course assignments within that course directly. If they’d like to keep those assignments as part of their Portfolio, they would need to save them as file attachments and document them as evidence (e.g., as part of a project).
This applies to both Evaluation and Showcase Portfolios.
Let me know if you have any other questions, I’m happy to help!
Hi @Dalma_Schnell thank you for clarifying that!
Am I right in assuming that there will be a 'Portfolio' link available in the global navigation menu? We currently have the Beta enabled only in a sub-account (rather than at inst level) and can only access the portolio tool via a course.
@DeliaGeorgescu Absolutely! We are already supporting four placements, and global navigation is one of them. The subaccount setup currently only supports course- and account-level configuration, but once you’re ready to open up the tool for a broader audience at your institution and configure it at the root account level, the global navigation placement will make the Portfolio tool available there.
Excited to hear that you’re testing it in Beta! Please feel free to share any feedback here in the community once you’ve had a chance to try the tool!
I have a follow-up question on the replies. Once a term ends, will students need the Global navigation placement in order to find the evaluation portfolio again? Or could they locate it from their profile?
We have education majors who are collecting artifacts and building one portfolio across several terms. I like many aspects of the Evaluation portfolio, but for our need, I believe the Showcase Portfolio makes the most sense. Here's my questions:
Would the faculty assign the same evaluation portfolio so they can keep building or does it not work this way?
If students are assigned an evaluation portfolio with one instructor in their first year, but end the program with a different instructor in their capstone course, how do they keep building on the same portfolio and how is it managed across different faculty and terms?
@Dalma_Schnell do you by chance have any thoughts to my questions above?
