At our school, we manage blueprints for nearly all of our course content. It is expected that all course content is set-up in the blueprint, including set-up of standardized content for external tools following a template or reference course set-up in the external tool.
Ideally, the Portfolio tool would support being an external tool submission type (or its own special submission type) for Assignments within Canvas. This would allow completion of the overall portfolio to get integrated into the gradebook for the course, potentially allow for the association of a rubric for overall portfolio evaluation, and integrate with the To-Do list. This should also help with sharing evaluation portfolios with the appropriate users and the appropriate access based on course enrollments.
When setting up the assignment, a few options may include:
- Create a new evaluation portfolio
- Duplicate an existing evaluation portfolio
- Link to an existing evaluation portfolio
- This is likely the most complex to try to support based on your current design
- However, if possible, I see the use case for this being one where an evaluation portfolio starts at the beginning of a student's program and continues to build and grow with new requirements that are evaluated in various courses as they continue through the program until they reach a final capstone course.
- Ideally for the student this would continue to be the same evaluation portfolio with expanded requirements. The teacher would be able to add and edit the requirements for their course, but not modify the requirements from other courses (unless they are also a teacher in that course or have the appropriate admin access).
