At our school, we manage blueprints for nearly all of our course content. It is expected that all course content is set-up in the blueprint, including set-up of standardized content for external tools following a template or reference course set-up in the external tool.
Ideally, the Portfolio tool would support being an external tool submission type (or its own special submission type) for Assignments within Canvas. This would allow completion of the overall portfolio to get integrated into the gradebook for the course, potentially allow for the association of a rubric for overall portfolio evaluation, and integrate with the To-Do list. This should also help with sharing evaluation portfolios with the appropriate users and the appropriate access based on course enrollments.

The idea of using the Portfolio tool as a submission type, is already on our radar. We completely agree that deeper Canvas integration would create a much more streamlined and scalable experience for both instructors and students.
