Can faculty the Portfolio link on course navigation be disabled by default?

I am taking my first look at the Portfolio tool and it looks like the tool will become added to all course navigation menus once the app is added to an account and that placement location is enabled (I assume the same is true of a subaccount). It would be great if that link was disabled by default (like it can be with some feature options). Can this change be made? I prefer that faculty interested in a tool have to enable it rather than faculty disinterested in a tool have to disable it.

@ProfessorBeyrer The app placement can be managed upon installation to remove from Course Navigation. I wish it would be disabled in Navigation by default instead of not having it as an option to use at the course navigation level, so that instructors could enable in course navigation if they plan to encourage or require use in their courses. @jmerlenbach2 's option to use API to disable by default is an option, I just don't like having to reply on "in house" APIs for too much of the everyday life of Canvas.
We've been testing both portfolio types (evaluation and showcase) in our Test environment and I'm leaning toward only leaving it in Global navigation only for the end user. In my very novice opinion it is the most visible option without implying that the portfolio belongs ONLY to a course.
I'll be curious to hear how institutions are utilizing the different portfolios in real use cases - esp. if they leave it in course level navigation. Since current Evaluation Portfolios can only be created from courses for which you are an instructor, it seems like it is just an assignment aggregated from other assignments already in the course. Maybe to allow for reflection on those assignment? Anyway, I'm all ears on use cases. I've provided one use case for Showcase Portfolio here.
