Semester vs multi-semester?

  1. Can you confirm that portfolios are still limited to courses from a single semester as opposed to multi-semesters?
  2. If the above is true, will it be ready for Feature Preview phase and can you share more about that date?
  3. Can you confirm how "single semester" is defined?
    1. Is it directly related to term dates?
    2. If we are a root account with multiple schools who are the subaccounts within our root account, will each subaccount be able to have a different "semester" date based on the terms that come from their SIS?
    3. Does this mean courses that have a year-long term dates (as opposed to a semester term) would be able to use assignments from the whole year?

Q: Can Evaluation Portfolios include courses from multiple semesters?
A: Not yet. Currently, Evaluation Portfolios are limited to courses from a single semester. A future version will support multi-semester portfolios, planned to be available during the Feature Preview phase.

Hi @LA2425,

You can already include courses from multiple terms in a portfolio; however, this currently only works if the courses in the different terms are published, with published assignments and enrolled learners. Semesters essentially refer to the terms you use in Canvas, so portfolios are tied to courses in those terms.

The reason we describe this as “limited to a term/semester” is because if the courses are not precreated and published and added to the portfolio at the initial creation, the portfolio cannot be edited after publishing, which means you cannot cover longer periods.

We’ll be updating the FAQ language soon to make this clearer.
