[ARCHIVED] Access Denied when trying to view assignments

When a number of students submit their assignments to me I get a access denied message. I request access and the student gives it to me. I am having to have students do this for every assignment. How can I make sure I have access to every students submissions going forward? The assignments are from Microsoft. The students click the share button in Word, for example, and they copy the link or URL to paste into canvas. I asked my IT team here and they said it wasn't something they could fix on their end. Can I get any help with this? Thank you.

Yes, they are submitting from their 365 account. I have 24 students and about 5 of them are giving me the issue. The others I am always able to view for grading.

Hello  @calvinc ...

Are your students sharing documents from their Office 365 account, by chance?  This could be related to how their permission settings are configured for sharing files with other people...in which case, it may make sense that they are having to grant permission to you.

ok.  Then, I stand by my initial thought about this being a possible permission setting on their end.  While I cannot be 100% certain of this (because I cannot see their accounts), there may be some settings they need to change to allow files to be seen in a more "public" way.  Just a guess, though.  I hope this helps.

The settings in Canvas, correct? Not 365?

No, I think this would be a setting in their own O365 account.

Another thought I had...do you know if your school has integrated Office 365 with Canvas so that your students can submit their work from O365 directly into a Canvas assignment?  https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-10560-4212675755  (This is a student Guide.)

I just checked and no, it is not setup through my organization. I will check the settings for O365 again. I am the admin for the accounts they have and I didn't see anything about permissions that would fix this but I will look again. They can't access the permissions for O365. They don't get the same view that I do when looking for the permissions. Each assignment is actually a sharepoint for example, https://tacomagoodwill-my.sharepoint.com/:w:/g/personal/student02b_gorrstudents_org1/Ea5Ee8PzsMhDslQ.... This is the type of link I will click to view assignments but it just doesn't work for a few students submissions. But, thank you for all of your time and attention to this issue. Greatly appreciated!
