Adding audio for read aloud to quizzes in Canvas

How can I record my questions and answers and include the audio in a Canvas quiz?  I tried recording an audio file on Powerpoint and saving the media file, but when I try to upload, Canvas does not recognize it as an audio file.

Hello there, @MARIESTROTHER ...

Even though PowerPoint can support audio files, it's not always the case that audio will work when uploaded to Canvas.

There are a couple options I see for you.  If you chose to do this, then the audio files would be placed on the question (and the possible answers), but the students would have to click on the play button for each audio clip in order to hear what you are saying.

• One option is to use the built-in audio recorder in the Rich Content Editor.  This should work for both the question and also the answer possibilities.  How do I record media using the Rich Content Edito... - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com)
• The other option is to record the audio files in an offline setting, and then you would upload them into the course.  This might take a bit longer, so the first option might be a better avenue for you.  How do I upload and embed a media file from my com... - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com)

The Rich Content Editor in QUIZZES does not allow me to RECORD only UPLOAD.  Here are my questions.

1. Am I missing something? or is my situation accurate?

2. What is the most streamlined method for recording and then uploading? 

3. What platforms do you recommend for recording when using a desktop? 

4. Which platforms do you recommend when using a mobile device? 

5. What file extensions are allowed for audio upload? 

6. Is there any way to have the Rich Content Editor record audio for NEW QUIZZES?

In the classic quizzes you could record right there in each question. I do not see that option in the new quizzes. Am I missing it?

I do not see the option to record audio/video in a New Quiz question.  For example, in my own sandbox course, I went into an existing New Quiz and added a multiple choice question.  In the area to add a question stem, I clicked on the icon to "Upload Media".  Three are three tabs available to upload an Image, an Audio file, or a Video.  However, I do not see anything that allows you to record audio/video.  I think you'd have to do this offline and then upload the file.  Though I cannot be sure of this, I wonder if the reason for not being able to record is because New Quizzes is a LTI developed by Instructure?  Classic Quizzes (also developed by Instructure) is not a LTI, so it can use the normal Rich Content Editor (RCE).  That's just a guess, though.

It appears that you can upload audio into a NEW QUIZ under "Instructions"
