Just for clarification, Canvas does not have e-mail. They have what is called "messaging" via the Canvas Inbox. Students and staff can message each other in the courses that they they are enrolled in, but the Canvas Inbox is not an e-mail tool where someone can simply send an e-mail to a friend or family member who is not enrolled in the same course as you are. Similarly, your friends and family cannot send you an e-mail that would be received within the Canvas Inbox. However, every user in Canvas can configure their notification settings so that they could be notified via e-mail when a message is sent to them via the Canvas Inbox. And, they can choose the frequency of those notifications.
