Creating Groups for Hybrid Education Model - Individual Student Submission

Our district is currently in a hybrid education model where half of the students come on, what we call, A Day and the other half of the students come on B Day.  Teachers asked how they can put their students in sections or Groups in order to give different assignment due dates for each group.  I suggested they create a Group Set (called Hybrid Model) then create two Groups called A Day and B Day within that Group Set.  However, I am now getting reports that, when one student submits an assignment, the assignment is posted for all students in the group.  Other students in the group report that they can't submit because someone has already submitted even though the teacher has indicated that each student will be graded individually.  What is a better solution for my teacher's dilemma?  Suggestions, please!
