[ARCHIVED] Is there a way to avoid duplicate folders?

If you want to re-use an assignment such as a survey from one course to another the function that allows you to copy an assignment drags along the tree of files which are hyper linked from the assignment along with the file folders those files are in. This can lead to confusion and/or duplication if some of those file folders are generic in nature. For instance, if you have a file folder for Readings in each course, copying over an assignment that references a reading from one course will cause the second course to wind up with two Readings folders.

Question:
Is there a way to avoid duplicate folders and the associated scattering of files when copying assignments from one course to another?
