Limited student access afetr course closes

I have a student who, for medical reasons, requested and received an incomplete last Fall. What are the options to allow access for this student without opening the class up for all?

Here is what I do.  Depending on the settings at your school you may need an Admin to assist (unless perhaps you are an Admin!)

• In the Course go to Settings, Sections
• Create an additional section named something like Extended - How do I add a section to a course as an instructor? 
• Click on the new section name. then click the Edit Section button and set availability dates that you want for this student How do I change the start and end dates for a course section as an instructor? 
• Make sure to check the box to limit participation to between those dates

• Now go to People, click the 3 dots next to the student and select Edit Sections.
• Add this new Extended section to the student and Update https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-26215-how-do-i-edit-sections-for-an-enrollment-in-a-course 

This should do the trick.  Since this student is the only one in this section only they will have the extended access to the course for as long as you set it.  It's possible to be enrolled in more than one section so when you add them to Extended you don't need to remove them from their normal section.
