Good morning, @yjohnson1 ...
Many schools choose to create new Canvas course shells from semester to semester or from year to year ... depending on how your school structure is set up. For example, you might have an "Accounting 101" course with a course number of 123-456-789 in your Fall semester. When the course runs again, you would have another course shell for the same course with a new course number of 123-456-780. This way, the content and the students from the -789 course remain there, and the new students you will have in the -780 course will be separate from the ones in the previous semester. You can import the content from the -789 course into the -780 course at any time prior to the start of that class and prepare the content as needed. Use this Guide to help you with that process: How do I copy content from another Canvas course using the Course Import tool?. As you use this Guide, you will want to be logged into the course where you are going to import the content into (in my example, this would be the -780 course).
I hope this will be of help to you. Let Community members know if you have any other questions about this...thanks! Take care, stay safe, and be well.
