New Discussion Button Not Visible

I'm unable to create a new discussion thread. I have:

1) cleared my cookies

2) logged out and back in, several times

3) restarted my computer

4) tried logging in from two other computers

5) tried logging in from an incognito browser

6) logged into my canvas account for another university to check to make sure I wasn't losing my mind, but the button indeed appears for that account

The professor mentioned there were issues with the course earlier in the day but that they should be resolved now. I have emailed the university's help center and the professor. What should be my next step in trying to fix this? I have attached a screenshot to further illustrate the issue.

Hello, ermi0021 Welcome to the Canvas Community! I looked at the UMU course in which you are enrolled and saw that the instructor has disabled students' ability to create new discussion topics in the course. Please ask the instructor to navigate to Settings > Course Details > more options, where they will be able to enable the checkbox next to "Let students create discussion topics."
