[ARCHIVED] Unpublished assignments viewable in Canvas student app

Hi there,

I have a weird situation where a student was able to submit an assignment from the student app before it was published. It seems as though all of the unpublished assignments are accessible through the app. Is there a way to make them not viewable?

They are not appearing on the calendar or the to-do list, both in student view in the browser and in the app.

Hi!

That's very interesting! I was not able to reproduce this. I'm currently running iOS14 with Canvas Student 6.9.7 on my iPad. I tried locating an item in Modules, Assignments, and in the Open In... option from a third-party app. If this student is able to do this again (maybe make a practice assignment?), I encourage you to submit a ticket. How do I get help with the Student app on my iOS device?

We actually have a few teachers who are having this issue. The assignments were copied from an existing course, then unpublished within the new course. Both the assignment and module were unpublished in one instance, and in the other, the module was published but the assignment wasn't. The teacher recognized the problem because a student submitted homework that hadn't yet been assigned.

Knowing that, I can try with copied content. I built my courses from scratch this semester, but I already copied/imported content for second semester. I'll add my test student (and modify some availability dates for a moment) to see if I can recreate your experience.

Unfortunately, I was unable to replicate this with copied/imported content either. Please let me know what you learn from Support.
