[ARCHIVED] Uploading a large ppt with embedded video?

Hi. How do I upload a pptx file which is 582mb in size (larger than the 500 limit), and contains video as well as slides? I understand you can use an online hosting platform such as google docs or slideshare but do students need to have access to these?

I have read about converting the ppt to a smaller sized file so that it can be uploaded- how can you do this and still embed the ppt onto a course on canvas?

Hello  @n_anbreen  and welcome to the Community.   @rmurchshafer   or  @Chris_Hofer ‌ might be able to help you.

 @n_anbreen ‌  there is a hard file size limit of 500 mb so you are going to need to get it smaller to upload it.  Powerpoint does have some options to compress which might get it a little smaller.  Try going to File, Save As, More options.  Then click the Tools button and select Compress images (the instructions will differ slightly depending if you are on a Mac or PC and which version of Powerpoint you have, but should be similar).  You can try some of the lower quality settings to see if it makes any difference; web and email options should still look fine.  This will only compress images though so if the included videos are huge this still might not compress it enough.

Hi  @n_anbreen ‌

If you have the Office365 integration with Canvas then I would use this to link to the document via Modules or even add as a link in a page (you cannot embed - yet!!). Students can view the document online through the PowerPoint app and also have the option to download it and view it on their own device (presumably with PowerPoint). This keeps the full functionality of the PowerPoint including animations, transitions, embedded video etc

Alternatively I might create a free OneDrive Personal account and upload the document there. You have the option of sharing it as a link or using the iframe code to embed on a Canvas page.
