Canvas Deploy Notes (2021-01-06)
Canvas deploys contain code changes that are intended to fix bugs, improve performance, and prepare for new features, but they do not affect customer workflows. These deploys take place every two weeks and can be tested in the beta environment before the production deploy date indicated in the title of this document. Intended changes in workflow are noted in the Canvas Release Notes published monthly.
Deploy notes may include notable fixed bugs, resolved fixes in Known Issues, and other updates that do not affect user functionality.

Fixed Bugs |
Accessibility
Assignments
When the user setting to disable keyboard shortcuts is disabled, keyboard shortcuts in Assignments are disabled.
New Rich Content Editor
For keyboard users, the Rich Content Editor content area is identified when the E key is used to navigate among various edit fields.
In Firefox, pages retain focus when using text editing tools.
Rubrics
The links span is visible on hover and displays the Edit and Delete icons.
Assignments
Student Assignment Enhancements and Media Recordings
Students can view an assignment that includes a media recording submission type.
Explanation: When Student Assignment Enhancements was enabled in a course, and an assignment supported media recordings, the assignment type created an error if at least one student had received a grade and other students had not made their submission. Canvas code has been updated to allow students to view the assignment if they had not yet made a submission.
Student Assignment Enhancements and Celebration User Setting
Students can view confetti if the celebration feature is enabled in user settings.
Explanation: When Student Assignment Enhancements was enabled in a course, and the celebration user feature option was enabled in user settings, a student was unable to view confetti for student submissions. Canvas code has been updated to display confetti if students have not disabled the celebrations user feature option.
Course Import
SVG and Imported IMSCC Packages
SVG image files are supported in course copies.
Explanation: When an SVG image file was added to a course, and the course was exported as an IMSCC package, importing the content into another course broke the SVG file. Canvas code has been updated to support SVG image files in course copies.
Dashboard
Coming Up List and Ordering
Assignments set for specific users or sections display in the Coming Up list by due date.
Explanation: When an assignment was not assigned to everyone with a due date, and the assignment was only set for specific users or sections, the assignment was listed out of order in the Coming Up list and displayed at the bottom of the list. Canvas code has been updated to display in order of due date, including section-only assignments.
New Rich Content Editor
Disabled Media Buttons
The Rich Content Editor media buttons are disabled when non-linkable content is selected.
Explanation: When non-linkable content was selected in the New Rich Content Editor, and the buttons were hidden in the overflow menu, the buttons were not disabled when the overflow menu was opened. Canvas code has been updated to disable media buttons with non-linkable selected content.
WMA, WAV, and WMV Files
WMA, WAV, and WMV files are supported in the New Rich Content Editor.
Explanation: When attempting to upload a WMA, WAV, and WMV file through the record/upload option in the New Rich Content Editor, the file was not loaded, and submitting the embedded file created a blank line. Canvas code has been updated to support WMA, WAV, and WMV files.
Quizzes
Quiz Moderation and Student Visibility
Moderating a quiz does not add a student to the quiz if the student was never added to the quiz. Additionally, inactive students do not display in the Moderation page.
Explanation: If a quiz had never been assigned to a student, and the availability dates were in the future, moderating the quiz gave the student access to the quiz. Additionally, if a student was made inactive within a course, the student’s name displayed in the Moderate section for the quiz. Canvas code has been updated to not add students to a quiz who were never added to a quiz and do not display inactive students in the Moderation page.
Unauthenticated Users and Practice Quizzes
Anonymous users can take practice quizzes in public courses.
Explanation: When an unauthenticated user accessed a public course and attempted to participate in a practice quiz, the page repeatedly refreshed. Canvas code has been updated to support anonymous users and practice quizzes in public courses.
