Canvas Deploy Notes (2021-08-04)

Canvas deploys contain code changes that are intended to fix bugs, improve performance, and prepare for new features. These deploys take place every two weeks and can be tested in the beta environment before the production deploy date indicated in the title of this document.

Deploy notes indicate notable changes in the deploy.

Conferences Link Update

Summary

The Conferences Course Navigation Link has been replaced by the name of the default Canvas tool being used for an institution's conferences (most commonly BigBlueButton).

Change Benefit

This change streamlines Course Navigation expectations with other LTI tools in Canvas, where each Course Navigation Link includes functionality for the specific tool. Previously the Conferences page was intended to display multiple conference tools.

Affected User Roles

All Users

The Conferences Course Navigation Link has been replaced with the name of an institution’s conferences provider. No functionality has been affected.

• Most commonly, institutions will be using BigBlueButton conferences, and the Course Navigation Link displays as BigBlueButton (formerly Conferences).
• For institutions using Adobe Connect, the Course Navigation Link displays as Adobe Connect (formerly Conferences).
  

If an institution is using Zoom, WebEx, or another conferences tool, those tools already display independently in the Course Navigation Menu and are not affected.

Notes:

• The Formerly Conferences designation will be removed from the link in the 2021-12-18 Canvas release.
• These links can be hidden in the Course Navigation Menu on a course-by-course basis if needed.
• To remove either of these links for the entire account, admins can contact their Customer Success Manager.
