Canvas Deploy Notes (2021-09-01)

Canvas deploys contain code changes that are intended to fix bugs, improve performance, and prepare for new features. These deploys take place every two weeks and can be tested in the beta environment before the production deploy date indicated in the title of this document.

Deploy notes indicate notable changes in the deploy.

Fixed bugs are located in Known Issues. For related issues resolved in this deploy, view the 2021-09-01 Known Issues tag.

Peer Review Date Text Clarification


Summary

In Peer Review assignment Date fields, the Automatically-assigned peer review explanation states that if the date is blank, the date field will use the due date.

Change Benefit

This change aligns with existing behavior to clarify that a date can be entered before the due date.

Add Courses Functionality


Summary

The behavior for adding courses has reverted to the permission for admin roles and an option in account settings.

Change Benefit

This change restores previous functionality in Canvas and minimizes confusion regarding the course creation process.

Permissions: Account and Course Roles

Previously, being able to add a course was included in the Manage Courses granular permission as Courses - add. Manage Courses no longer includes this permission.

For Account roles, Courses - add has been moved as its own permission.

Account Settings

Admins can always manage user roles allowed to create new courses. This option is located in Account Settings. Users who are allowed to create new courses can create courses from their Dashboard sidebar, and courses are always added to the Manually Created Courses subaccount.

Notifications

Discussions Comment Text Update


Summary

In Discussions notifications, the Comment link within the email has been renamed to the Reply link.

Change Benefit

This change aligns with Discussions terminology and also prepares for future Discussion enhancements.
