Studio YouTube Allowlist
You can configure your school’s filter settings to allow YouTube videos to be viewed only when added through Canvas Studio. When students watch YouTube videos added through Canvas Studio, the videos stream from www.youtubeeducation.com (used by YouTube Player for Education) instead of directly from www.youtube.com.
Configure Filters for Students
To allow students to watch YouTube videos in Canvas Studio, update your school’s filter settings.
- Block www.youtube.com.
- Allow www.youtubeeducation.com.
- Allow www.youtube-nocookie.com.
With these settings, students can only view YouTube videos in Canvas that were added to Canvas Studio first. They will not be able to browse or search YouTube directly.
Configure Filters for Teachers
To allow teachers to search for and add YouTube videos in Canvas Studio, update your school’s filter settings.
- Allow www.youtube.com.
- Allow www.youtubeeducation.com.
- Allow www.youtube-nocookie.com.
With these settings, teachers can search for YouTube videos directly from Canvas Studio and share them with students. They can also browse or search YouTube directly.
Troubleshooting
If you have verified that the necessary URLs are allowed but are still unable to stream a YouTube video within Canvas Studio, we recommend you to clear your web browser's cache and cookies, and attempt to play the video again.
