As we prepare for our move to the new Community platform, we want to share our plans for content migration and cleanup. Our goal is simple: continuity of service with non-disruptive delights. That means the resources you rely on will still be there when you need them, but with some smart cleanup to make finding what you need easier.

Guides

All of our How-To Guides (for learners, instructors, observers, and admins) will move over without change. Behind the scenes, we’re doing some cleanup - removing old archives, fixing broken links, and making sure they continue to be best-in-class. No matter how you access the Community, you’ll still find the guide you need, right when you need it.

Resource Documents

These supplemental documents are not updated as often as guides. To ensure they’re fresh and accurate, anything that hasn’t been updated in the past six months is being queued for review before the move.

Forums

Last year, you told us that forum discussions feel irrelevant after 3 years. Since then, we’ve been archiving older posts into a read-only state. With this migration, we’re taking the next step:

  • Read-only after 3 years
  • Removed entirely after 8 years (meaning anything already 8+ years old won’t make the move)

Blogs

Community feedback also told us that blogs start to lose value after about 5 years. So, we’ll follow a similar process as forums:

  • Read-only after 5 years
  • Removed after 10 years

Events – Instructure Live

All events (current and past) will move over. Going forward, events will follow a timeline similar to forums:

  • Read-only after 3 years
  • Removed after 8 years

Release Notes

All Release Notes will migrate over with no archival or deletion planned.

Release Notes Q&A

All associated Q&A forums will also migrate. Our current plan (which we’ll be testing) is to merge these forums into the comments section of the related Release Notes. The new platform will support comment threading, which wasn’t available before, making this change possible.

Ideas

On November 14, we will freeze all Idea submissions and put Ideas into a read-only state while downloading and preparing them for migration. A brand-new solution for providing product feedback is currently in beta and tentatively slated to go live in January. Keep an eye on the Product Blog for updates on this project!

We’re so excited to prepare for this migration - making content easier to find, more relevant, and better organized for everyone. Thank you for all the feedback that has shaped these plans and for being such an engaged and thoughtful Community. Together, we’re building a space that continues to grow stronger, clearer, and more valuable for every member.
