How to send an answer object to a question using the CanvasAPI?

I am currently working on a senior design project to implement a hierarchical file structure to Canvas using our own system. We are currently struggling with sending the answer objects to canvas to a question. Does anyone know how to do this? 

We have been using the CanvasAPI Python wrapper to develop our system here. However, looking in the API wrapper it does not include how to send answer objects to questions. Also looking at the official API it does not explain how to send an answer object it only shows the look of the object and not how to display that object. From what I am seeing it is not possible to send an answer object?
