Need to Hide Roles from Add People Drop-Down

Hi All,

In the past we used custom CSS to hide the Observer and Teacher roles from the add people drop-down. We wanted to prevent the use of the Observer role (it was being abused to add students not officially enrolled in courses) and we replaced the Teacher role with a custom role called "Instructor". Unfortunately this broke with the rolling updates Instructure is doing with their own version of React library. 

There is an existing idea to allow us to remove roles but I can't see this happening anytime soon. Does anyone have any code they would be willing to share to remove roles in the current environment? Hoping to not reinvent the wheel.

It currently seems to be very difficult if not impossible. Here's a related thread with some discussion on trying to change the drop down.
