Differentiation Tags Update: Refinements

Thanks again to everyone in this group for continuing to share feedback and help us shape the Differentiation Tags experience. Several key refinements will be available in the August 13th deploy, and many of them came directly from your input.

Here’s what’s new:

CSV Import Support: You can now create and manage Tags via CSV upload.
Tag Display in Differentiation Modal: Tags now display in a horizontal, wrapping layout with scroll support, making setup faster—especially in large courses.
Assignment Details Tag Display: The “For” column now shows Tag names (not “Groups”) when used, making it clearer who each due date applies to.
Role and Tag Filter Update: We've refined the filters on the People page to better support common workflows.
SIS Import Support: SIS imports can now include Tag data, improving integration for institutions with automated workflows.

We're not done yet—more refinements are in the works and will be shared soon.

Hi @SamGarza1, thanks for the updates. I think the CSV Import support will be very helpful for bulk assigning tags. I wanted to point out in the Import CSV tray, the wording says "You can create tags by downloading the differentiation tag template" but there is no template. Will there be a way for teachers to export a template containing the student's User ID and other info so it's easier for them to create and assign those tags? Thank you.

Hi @kikpe yes and apologies for any confusion. We're finishing up the download option and unfortunately has ended up in a separate deploy. The CSV will be formatted as needed for the import and include the course roster along with any existing Tags. For reference this is how the Groups CSV import works today. A "Start with CSV" button will also be added to the manage Tags tray so users don't have to create a Tag to be able to have the CSV option available.
